Over two hundred HR practitioners, business executives gathered on the Microsoft Teams platform for the Vodafone HR Interactive at 9am on Friday, 9th April 2021.
This event was organised by HR Focus Africa and was themed: “Leveraging Digital Technology to Achieve Productivity Remotely”.
Esteemed HR Practitioners in the persons of Hannah Ashiokai Akrong, HR Director, Vodafone Ghana, Jen Barkey Anane-Nsiah, HR Manager, Omnimedia (CitiFm/CitiTV), and Edward Osafo, Snr HR Business Partner – Standard Chartered Bank and Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan, CE – L’AINE Services Ltd spoke at the event.
It was an insightful event, packed with discussions on how various organisations have managed remote working and boosted their employees’ productivity.
In her keynote address, Ashiokai Akrong painted the picture of a persona whose end-to-end relations with their organisation were virtual.
She said, “It is possible to interview, train and employ new staff virtually. However, there is the need to be deliberate about communication and onboarding to preserve the organization’s culture,”
Dr. Ellen Hagan, the Chief Executive of L’AINE Services delivered the welcome address virtually. In her speech, she said: “Our HR Interactive events form part of the build-up to our annual HR Focus Conference happening in October 2021, and they are each centred around unique themes that give insight to emerging HR challenges in Ghana and Africa as a whole.”
“This year, we plan to hold three more HR interactive events in addition to today’s session and we look forward to having you all be a part of them.”
Mr. Edward Osafo, in addressing the participants on the concept of agile working mentioned: “Work is not somewhere you go; work is now something you do.” He then entreated other business executives to be mindful of their employees’ output, instead of their locations when working.
Jen Barkey Anane Nsiah in her contribution to the panel discussion highlighted the difficulties of agile working faced by her staff at CitiTV and CitiFM. She said, “We have had to be active and physically present in delivering news and covering events – that has made agile working next to impossible for some workers.”
HR Focus’ Vodafone HR interactive was a largely insightful and impactful event.
