Speaking on the theme: “Business Growth; The Role of HR” at the just ended HR Interactive event, Iris Owusu Manu, HR Business Partner (Technology, Diversity & Inclusion), Vodafone Ghana, said that the employee experience HR creates throughout the employee lifecycle is critical for attracting, recruiting and retaining people that drive business growth. The first HR Interactive event for 2022 was organized by HR Focus at the LOC Events Center, Adabraka on Friday, 8th April 2022, 8:30am. Also speaking at the event were esteemed HR Practitioners; Mr. David L.O. Mills, Head of Human Resources at PETROSOL and Mr. Kwame Afreh, Senior HR Business Partner at Tullow Oil. The event saw a hundred and forty-eight (148) participants joining virtually via the Microsoft Teams platform.
Mr. James Laar, the Managing Director of L’AINE Services, in his welcome address stressed on the importance of employee engagement in business growth. He said “’ Engaged employees are more likely to willingly work harder for the company’s success thus contributing to business growth.” He further stated that “According to McKinsey & Co., 2017, organizations with high employee engagement are 21% more profitable and the results are ultimately seen on their bottom lines.”
During the panel discussion, Mr. David L.O. Mills, Head of Human Resources at PETROSOL, urged HR Practitioners to avoid gender bias when recruiting because leadership submits to competence and not gender. He also insisted that HR Leaders endeavor to empower women on the leadership front, ensuring that opportunities are evenly spread. Mr. Kwame Afreh, Senior HR Business Partner at Tullow Oil, also speaking on how an organization’s culture can drive business growth said, “Culture needs to be driven from the core, where front line managers are also given the chance to drive the process or the procedures”.
Iris Owusu Manu concluded the panel discussion by adding that, “Businesses aim to retain top talent, but inevitably, people will move on. Understanding why people leave is crucial for business growth. It allows the business to correct systemic and/or individual issues that may be hindering growth and can reveal the competitive landscape”.
