Foli, the Clinic Administrator at Akai House Clinic, we learnt a lot about the people culture and how the ship at the clinic is run.

According to Mrs. Foli, “Akai House Clinic has built a supportive, skills-driven environment that values the contributions of every staff member and rewards good work. We believe that good effort and self-improvement are the hallmarks of personal success, and hold our employees to a high standard.” At Akai House Clinic, they believe that excellence is built by practice and as such, they are intentional about their quality and standards of care. As much as the staff work hard, they also cap each successful month with a TGIF or other staff celebration.

As a patient-focused organization, the Clinic’s approach to healthcare is very interdependent. For this reason, their culture emphasizes teamwork, cooperation and flexibility. “Respect and positive communication are essential for us to be a high productivity, low-drama workplace,” said Mrs. Foli.

At Akai House Clinic, an employee becomes a brand ambassador for the organisation when they are highly qualified and well trained in their role. In their own words, “Managing performance and rewarding good work is vital for keeping standards high. Additionally, Patient/client feedback is constantly used as a means to guide and improve performance. Akai House Clinic’s Leadership Story

The Clinic’s HR leadership is a close-knit team comprising of the Clinic’s Founder/Medical Director, Administrator, HR Manager and Heads of Department. They have put in place a robust communication structure that enables them to learn about and respond to the needs of both the Clinic and its employees in a swift and satisfactory manner. Mrs. Foli stated, “I am proud of our leadership team, who through engagement surveys, staff events and feedback meetings among other measures, have ensured that employee engagement is high and all their needs are being met.”

 About two years ago, when COVID-19 hit, the HR Leadership team at Akai House Clinic communicated frequently with staff, clearly informing them about the state of affairs. In addition to offering staff incentives and rewards, they also instituted comprehensive infection control protocols with full PPE that gave staff a greater sense of security while working. Speaking to Mrs. Manayo Foli, she said, “Our staff are commendable in their flexibility, effort and dedication to patients over the past two years.”

Responsiveness and structure, according to Mrs. Foli, are what has over the years become Akai House Clinic’s unique people strategy. She said, “When people feel that they are heard and are able to contribute, they lean into their roles with more confidence and engagement.” Further, she explained, “Structure, in the form of well-defined protocols, schedules and milestones, gives employees a sense of security and a pathway to channel their skills into greater contribution to the organization.”
